Trump and the Desire to Be Loved

I still don’t know whether Donald Trump’s presidency is going to crash and burn or if he’s going to go down as one of the greatest presidents in history. With a mouth like his, coupled with a remarkable lack of self-control and an incomparable talent for making people angry, anything is possible. If I were a bookie, I wouldn’t even take bets on this one.

But what worries me even more about Trump is his desire to be loved. It makes him vulnerable to sycophants, and Washington D.C. is awash with that particular species of cockroach. What Trump needs to do is rise above his insecure desire to be loved and be very careful about whom he includes in his inner circle.

He may be a lot smarter than me overall, but I’m not sure he understands that the more indiscriminate you are when it comes to seeking the approval of others, the less likely it is that those from whom you seek approval will respect you. I’ve read a number of stories about Trump over the years that clearly illuminated this weakness, and in his case it could be fatal.

That he has chosen to side with Paul Ryan and his RINO pals against the House Freedom Caucus is not a good sign for those who have high hopes that DT will actually do what he promised to do during his campaign. There’s no question that he’s doing pretty well with his checklist thus far, but the healthcare debacle shined a bright light on what might be his Achilles heel.

Lou Dobbs has had it right for a long time: Throughout his career, Paul Ryan has been worthless at best and, at worst, an out-and-out enemy of the American people. In my view, he represents everything that’s wrong with the GOP. And, to boot, he does not like Donald Trump!

Anyone who thinks otherwise has been sleepwalking the past two years. One would hope that Steve Bannon is urging Trump to get Ryan out of the way, because if he is not able to do so, that one mistake could doom his presidency.

But Trump is a man who never ceases to surprise, so for all I know he may have a plan to force Ryan out at just the right time. He certainly was successful in humoring MittMan into shutting his foul mouth while he was picking his cabinet. And he even played along with exchanging B.S. comments with Obama for a while, so you can never be sure what he’s thinking.

I should also add that even though I didn’t like the fact that he was willing to go along with a bill that a majority of people felt was as bad or worse than Obamacare, I do like his talking about getting up off the mat and coming right back with a revised version of the bill. If so, he should listen to what Charles Krauthammer said Republicans should do, because this is one time I believe CK has it right.

Paraphrasing Krauthammer’s words in the simplest way possible, Republicans should put together a bill that has the best ideas of the Freedom Caucus, moderates, and RINOs, then unanimously (among Republicans) pass it in the House, knowing that the Dirty Dems will make sure it doesn’t go anywhere in the Senate.

What’s good about this approach is that Democrats would then be on record as turning down the repeal and replacement of Obamacare, thus the DDs who are running in 2018 would be unable to hide from the Obamacare disaster. Of course, I am painfully aware that it’s always a mistake to believe you have the Democrats trapped, because they have an uncanny ability to project their bad deeds onto Republicans and lie their way out of virtually anything — but it’s still worth a try.

As to the overall success or failure of his presidency, I believe that the only way Trump can hope to make even a small number of significant swamp-draining changes in Crime City is to adopt a scorched-earth mentality, a la Saul Alinsky. Which means never back down, never compromise, and never give in.

As I have repeatedly warned, the SOP of the Dirty Dems is to lie, steal, cheat, and deceive with impunity, so anyone who is dumb enough, or naïve enough, to try to “reach across the aisle” (a euphemism for totally giving in) and work with the Democratic miscreants has no chance whatsoever of succeeding.

One last piece of advice for President Trump: When the Dirty Dems yell and scream hysterically that this or that Republican should recuse himself or resign, they should be totally ignored. Did you ever see Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Susan Rice, or Horrible Hillary recuse themselves or resign from any position, even though all of them were caught either lying under oath, lying on national television, or worse. Meeting on her private plane with Bill Clinton was simply brushed aside by puppet Loretta Lynch, and her boss simply acted as though it never happened.

That’s why it’s so important that Devin Nunes ignore his critics and refuse to recuse himself from the “Russian investigation” (which is really the investigation of illegal leaks that point straight to Obama). Horrible Hillary can delete tens of thousands of emails, smash a dozen Blackberries to smithereens, get caught repeatedly lying under oath, and not even receive a slap on the wrist. But Devin Nunes should resign for talking to his boss, the president?

Unfortunately, it’s not just Trump who has a problem with wanting to be loved. In fact, one of the biggest differences between Republicans and Democrats is that all Republicans want to be loved, while Democrats have no time for love. They are interested only in money and power.

That’s why Republican toady Walter Jones of North Carolina has already joined the Dirty Dems in demanding that Nunes step aside. (The unctuous Rep. Jones already has co-sponsored an otherwise all-Democratic bill to establish an independent commission to probe claims of Russian attempts to influence the U.S. election.)

Now, word on the street is that new EPA chief Scott Pruitt, who is famous for filing a number of lawsuits against the EPA, is going soft on his previous hard-nosed stance against fictitious climate-change science. It’s yet another rerun of a very old movie: Republican Wimps Surrender Again!

Message for Donald Trump: Contrary to what you may think, you do not have a majority in either the House or the Senate, because the reality is that a goodly number of Republicans will always choose the “please love me” route and vote with the Dirty Dems rather than doing what they know is good for the American people. However, a small number of Republicans do stick to their principles, which is why their members are always fighting among themselves. And the Dirty Dems, who always march in lockstep like the zombies they are, love every minute of it.

Let’s be honest here, folks: Trump can’t come close to completely draining the swamp. But if he can’t curb his desire to be loved and get an obvious swamp creature like Paul Ryan out of his agenda plans — and lock arms with the truest conservatives in his party — James Carville’s prediction (following Obama’s 2008 victory) that the Democrats would be in power for forty years may come true after all.

In fact, if the Dirty Dems ever get control of the House, the Senate, and the White House, I would unhesitatingly predict they will throw out the Constitution and establish a dictatorship. That’s why Trump needs to go after them first, starting, as I have repeatedly stated, with the prosecution of the Cackling Creature from Chappaqua.

Take Hannity’s advice, Mr. President, and simply do exactly what you said you would do. Then I’d be willing to wager on your success.

Robert, I hope you sent a copy to POTUS. He'd do well to take it to heart.

Believe you meant Chappaqua. (Also the name of a crazy movie I saw in the 1960s about what went on in a druggie's mind while undergoing a successful rehab treatment.)

You present a picture that depicts a very tenuous situation. Scary! The old saying "hopin' for the best but fearing the worst" comes to mind. Keep helping people think, Mr. Ringer. It is important!

The Republican establishment is clearly divided, in part because they just outright hate Trump. A great number of them did not vote for him or offer their support during the campaign. After they saw his surprising electoral success election night did they start to come around holding their noses while beginning to make nice to the Donald. Look at Mitt. He bashed Trump during the campaign, yet after the election, jackassed up to the White House in (failed) hopes of smoothing.it all over and getting onboard with the Trump adminidtration. What a goof! Indeed, JFK said it right (that's back in the day when the Dems were anti-Communist and pro-American) when he stated that victory has a thousand fathers, but defeat is an orphan. How true, how true!

President Trump has a long haul ahead of him in attempts to implement his agenda while simultaneously dealing with a bunch of Trump-haters. Trump hates them too, but at the same time feels he has to be nice enough to them to get his job done. A tenuous balancing act to say the least.

I really learned a lot about the GOP since 2016. They are completed worthless and a waste. After all is said and done, that is, when the Trump administration ends, I am re-registering as an Independent. Here in Kentucky, they call it "Non partisan". Whatever! I'm done with them once and for all!

    • Phil says:

The GOP is even beyond worthless. I think that in some ways they are more evil than the Democratic Party. It is a close call.

    • Doug M says:

Remember when the GOP lost both houses in 06? One had to ask ones self, they had the senate and the house for 12 years and where did they go with that? The answer was painfully obvious.

  8. Rick G says:

And incidentally, I consider myself a "Trump Republican", not a "Republican". I just want you all to know I don't carry around with me any of their lice and bedbugs!

"…hope that Steve Bannon is urging Trump to get Ryan out of the way…"

There is no doubt that Trump wants people to like him as evidenced by his reaction to Michael Forbes' winning the "Scotsman of the Year" award for defying Trump's attempt to take his farm for Trump's Aberdeen golf resort. Trump lashed out at Forbes, a poor farmer, for making him "look bad".

Nevertheless, Trump's public denunciation of the Freedom Caucus may (or may not) have been with a wink and a nod at them in private. Some of Trump's advisers are said to have, privately, blamed Ryan. We shall see.

The real danger for Trump is, if (or when) the economy turns south. If he manages to avoid blame for it and turns it on his enemies, he'll do fine. But, if his own polls decline, and he really starts lashing out at his supporters like the Freedom Caucus, Trump will fall hard.

  13. Pete Moc says:

Well said Robert, time will tell.

  14. Rocketman says:

Sorry Robert. "Crash and Burn". Trump has at least made an effort but that will be as far as it goes because the "deep state" won't let him go any further. I expect that they will sooner or later succeed at smearing him enough that even the RINO's in the GOP will turn against him and he will be impeached. That may and I say MAY allow some kind of manufactured "Constitutional Crisis" to take place and "Hell on Earth" Hillary will be put in charge.
If Trump was smart he should immediately have Sessions start a no holds bared investigation into Hillary and Bill and go after George Soros as well as they are the ringleaders behind all of this. Get them locked up and throw away the key Donald because if you don't that's what they are planning for you.

  15. Paul says:

Agreed Robert. trumps real adversaries are the RINOs the press and those Democrats that like things just the way they are. Perhaps I'm naive, but I am hoping that their are enough"statesmen" from both sides to turn this around. That is the coalition that he should pursue. Yeah, I still believe in Santa

  16. Jim Hallett says:

Trying to please others is almost always a fatal flaw, and perhaps, that will be the undoing of DT. Ryan is a snake, and the defeat of his RyanCare Bill was a GOOD thing. Trump needs to stick to a free market resolution to healthcare and NONE of these stupid govt. plans, which are all a crock!! The reason things never get done is that that are so many ingrates in the District of Criminals, so one never gets enough support to drain any swamp or achieve anything worthwhile – most of which is UNDOING what is in place, and not adding new anything. The Constitution covered all the various situations that could arise, but since this document and the essentials of what is a republic have been trashed by the "progressives", we only get more and more govt. and govt. is ALWAYS immoral, incompetent, and inefficient!! Good luck, DT, and make sure you keep your enemies close – namely folks like Paul Ryan. Good article, and I am hopeful DT will achieve some good, despite the overriding wave of crooks who want to oppose all he does and to make him look bad.

    • Robert Ringer RJR says:

The simplest approach to healthcare is to immediately repeal Obamacare, but give people six months to find their own healthcare. Then leave everything to the free market, literally. Meaning the government would have ZERO to do with any aspect of healthcare, including and especially regulating it in any way.

      • taejonwill says:

That would be bitter medicine to many people….who simply don't have the wherewithal to afford medical care via the free market.

        • Ragnar says:

They sure don't have any problem buying smart phones and big screen TV's or drugs. It's all a matter of choice. Those who really need help can be taken care of with charity. Those who make bad choices should not be able to place a claim on some other persons income.

It's possible that this bill for an independent commission is only being touted by Democrats because they know it won't pass. Any kind of really independent probe, after all, is likely to uncover dirty deeds by members of both parties.

Walter Jones, who represents a southern district with military bases, was the first GOP Congressmen to admit his mistaken vote in favor of Iraq II. Having the courage to stand alone against the rest of GOP establishment, including some primary challengers, is not an example of 'toadiness'. Nor is Jones a so-called 'liberal' in his votes on domestic issues. His 'unctuousness' appears to be sincere – he doesn't like what he sees, and he sees things that the rest of us are not privy to.

  18. Guest says:

Awesome article Mr. Ringer! And I totally agree with RJR: Repeal Obamacare with a sunset clause of 6 – 18 months, block grant Medicare to the states with a sunset clause to give the states time to implement their own system, open up the free market, and let 'er rip! Fast, Effective, Simple, and most important: Constitutional.

Healthcare is no-win situation. Trump can't roll back the unfunded and underfunded healthcare monster. Why? Because most Americans actually want socialist security, socialist welfare, socialist education and socialist healthcare. Americans want to live under a system that provides everything. But socialism doesn't work long term. Social Security was fine when the ratio was two retirees for every ten workers. But the welfare state has become too big not to fail. The system simply cannot support the massive amount of old people who are living longer than ever before. And allowing in millions of foreigners to flood into America has sealed it's fate. Trump is dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn't. Why?

Because what we are witnessing is the worldwide collapse of socialism and the failure of the so called managed economy. The EU is breaking up. By 2018 it's going to be clear that Euroland is a socialist wet dream turned nightmare… This, in turn, to s going to be a real problem for Trump, because Trump believes in a managed economy and he won't know what to do when the dominos fall one by one all the way back home to the American Empire.

Buy gold. Buy silver. Have fun speculating on the US stock market because it could double as money flees the EU. Buy guns during the upcoming fire sale….. Stock up on extra food, fuel, water and medical supplies…. And last but not least: have faith.

The ignorant masses who both want and believe in socialism are going to get a VERY rude awakening.

Another great interview by Greg Hunter…

Actually, President Donald J Trump is in a no-win situation. As Jim Rickards so rightly point out in the above interview: " The Deep State, the MSM [including Fox], [the network of Obama Community Organizers] and elements inside the GOP [ Grand Orwellian Party] are ALL against President Trump.

Yes, all of the above and one very import group Jim left out, but I won't: the majority of the amerikan little people are against Trump, too. How so? Because the ignorant masses are for socialist security, socialist education, socialist welfare and socialist medicine. Trump doesn't stand a chance. Why? Because we are witnessing the global collapse of socialism. And that collapse is going to bury anybody who tries to hold it up — including Trump. If you don't believe me, then just watch Euroland slowly than suddenly by no later than 2020 and probably by 2018. Then watch as the dominoes as they fall all the way back home right into Washington's bosom and Trump's lap…. Trump is going to get the blame.

Buy gold. Buy silver. Buy guns ( there's going to be some really great gun sales because of overproduction). Buy some extra food with a long shelf-life. Stockpile some basic necessities. Speculate on the US stock market, if you wish, because that, too, could double over the next four years. But be ready for when the bond and stock market crashes….. A fortune of a lifetime is going to be made in shorting the bond market, if, and it's a big IF, you get the timing right.

And last but not least, have faith….

I truly hope Donald J. Trump sees the RJR article. I, also, see his needing to be liked could be his one fatal flaw.
