A Final Word on the 2018 Midterms

Here we are again, ground zero for another election.  But this time around there’s a different feeling in the air, a feeling that the stakes are higher than they’ve ever been before.

Those who pay attention to politics see tomorrow’s midterms as a referendum on capitalism versus socialism, free speech versus political correctness, freedom of thought versus groupthink, nationalism versus globalism, reinstating America’s national sovereignty versus open borders, strict constructionism versus legislating from the bench, rule of law versus mob rule, and, yes, liberty versus tyranny.

But first, a bit of prediction history.  In my January 3, 2018 article, “Spasms of a Dying Party,” I wrote:

With the aid of the FNM (and even Fox News!), the Dirty Dems continue to promote the baseless narrative that all signs point to a blue wave in the 2018 midterms.

Whether they actually believe such nonsense or are just trying to gin up the Radical Left base, it’s nothing more than another spasm of a dying party:  Just proclaim it and it will magically come to pass!  To be sure, there will be a wave in 2018, but it will be a bright-red wave.

Five months later, in my June 13, 2018 article titled “One Last Time: No Blue Wave,” I stated:

I can’t understand what took conservative pundits and politicians so long to figure out that the 2018 Blue Wave is, and always has been, a myth.  I first wrote about this back on January 3 of this year in an article titled “Spasms of a Dying Party.”

Today, with everyone from Hannity to Pat Buchanan jumping on the bandwagon and chiming in about the disappearance of the Blue Wave, it’s all but official: There will be no Blue Wave in November.  Republicans will, at a minimum, hold their majority in the House and gain a net of anywhere from three to ten seats in the Senate.

Now, with election day less than 24 hours away, I stick by my June 13 prediction that Republicans will pick up three to ten seats in the Senate.  The most likely number is five or six, though I can easily envision it being closer to ten.

As to the House, while I admit the polls have me a bit spooked, common sense tells me that the odds favor the GOP hanging on to a majority.  Of course, I’m referring to my common sense, which can be dangerous when it comes to making predications.

I constantly have to remind myself that tens of millions of people voted for frauds like Al Gore, John Kerry, Barack Obama, and even Hillary Clinton.  Which I guess is the main reason why, after all these years, I still have a tendency to overestimate the common sense of millions of voters.

Even so, in an effort to calm populist fears, I am obliged to say that even if the Dirty Dems should squeeze out a majority in the House, it’s no reason to panic.  Here’s why:

  1. After they put their hateful, insane ways on display for two years, voters will overwhelmingly vote them out of office in 2020. Trump, of course, will not only win easily in 2020, he will be (and already is) much more knowledgeable about how the swamp game is played.  And with Paul Ryan, Bob Corker, John McCain, and Jeff Flake gone, it will much easier to quickly move his agenda forward.Trump’s biggest threats will come not from Democrats but faux Republicans like Marco Rubio, Ben Sasse, Lisa Murkowski (who, thankfully, is sure to be primaried in 2022), Susan Collins (yes, that Susan Collins), and, above all, Mitt Romney.

Unfortunately, Romney will be around until 2024, and until then you can be certain he will make it his fulltime job to oppose Trump and his policies.  He is a truly vile human being, and, as difficult as it may be for Trump to do, he should make a concerted effort to ignore him.  Nothing would be more painful to a super-narcissist like Mitt than being ignored.

  1. The Dirty Dems will be helpless to remove Trump from office via impeachment. Sure, they can impeach him in the House, but there’s zero chance he would be convicted by the Senate.  Which means more wasted time and more taxpayer money down the drain, which in turn will give Independents yet another reason to vote Republican in 2020.
  1. While it’s true that the Dirty Dems will quash any legislation aimed at cutting taxes, eliminating more regulation, cracking down on illegal immigration, etc., they cannot stop Trump from continuing to change things through executive orders. It’s true that each of these executive orders will probably have to be taken all the way to the Supreme Court, but guess who controls the Court?

Yes, Barackus, for once in your life you were right:  Elections really do have consequences. And even if an executive order is overturned by the Supreme Court, it can be ensconced into law by a Republican House and Senate after the coming 2020 Republican landslide.

  1. Perhaps best of all, once the elections are over, Trump will be free to send Jeff Sessions packing, after which his replacement (Joe DiGenova? Pam Bondi?  Rudy Giuliani?) can start empaneling grand juries and issuing subpoenas to the real criminals in Washington.  The right attorney general should have Hillary in an orange jump suit in short order, with a long list of Democratic criminals not far behind, and a Dirty Dem controlled House could do absolutely nothing about it.

Of course, none of this will matter if Republicans manage to hold the House.  Which, if people were well informed and rational, would be a sure thing.  Unfortunately, millions of voters are not well informed and rational.

That said, it still baffles me why even the most moderate Republican — or even an Independent or libertarian — would vote for anyone who promises to raise taxes, increase business regulations, eliminate due process, welcome unlimited illegal aliens into the country, abolish ICE, implement socialism, and silence those who disagree with their radical policies and continue to label them racists, xenophobes, and purveyors of hate speech.

Which is why I say that no matter how much a voter may dislike the Republican running in his district, he would do well to heed the words of the great Thomas Sowell, who once said, “Democrats are the best reason to vote for Republicans.”

If you can top that one, you’re a lot better with words than I am.  Nothing is more effective than truth coupled with simplicity.

Robert: I believe you are going to be very surprised by stealth Jeff Sessions. Think of the movie "The Sting". Trump is pulling off a sting of the Deep State Russian Collusion Delusion anarchists. What happens when you throw a boomerang ??? Stay tuned and stay patient …..

    • Phil says:

Kinda doubt it but hope you are right.

    • Holly C says:

Agreed. I think Jeff Sessions is highly underrated. His DOJ has been weaponized against pedophiles and human trafficking since Trump took office. There are 50,000 sealed indictments ready to be served on Deep State criminals. But what use is it if the district courts are still filled with criminal activist judges who will let their friends go? So far over 50 new district judges have been appointed and 20+ appellate court judges with more to come. This whole thing is taking a while because the rule of law judicial system has to be restored first. But yeah, I think Jeff Sessions is totally the man for the job. His record proves he is a by-the-book contructionist, extremely fair, and loves America.

Donald trump does not care sbout those things.Donald trump wants sessions to protect him from the Mueller investigation.

      • lee says:

Trump fired sessions.and placed matthew whitaker his advocate, as acting attorney general because he wants whitaker to stop the Mueller investigation.trump knows that Mueller knows that he and putin formed a partnership to enrich themselves.

"Millions of voters are NOT well-informed and rational!" Exactly so! I wonder HOW that came to be! Who was the writer long time ago who wrote about "Momism"? I'd like to read a writer such as that address the issue: why so many people are flea-brained! WHAT I FEAR THE MOST is the possibility of President Trump being "discontinued" as certain other Presidents have been. Would Could our VP continue Trump-llke? I like to think he could and would. The older I got, the more interested I've become in Government. I'm the 1950s generation and I do not recall any THING as brain-damaged as a Pelosi and a Waters in Government! And a few others as well. What "kind" elected them, and why? And how did the beautiful, physically, State of California go to hell?
And then I wonder about Hawaii, etc.

Another great insightful article Robert, Thanks.

Thank you for another of your reassuring comments. I am grateful that we have you, and, always the brilliant Thomas Sowell in our midst. This "blue wave" talk has made me nervous, but you always put me at ease. I find it difficult to believe "blue" when I see the immense crowds still going to the Trump rallies. How can it be? I'm putting all my faith in you and your brilliant thoughts. The Prosecco is on ice, waiting to pop for a "red wave" celebration tomorrow night.

    • lee says:

Crowds at trumps rallies are staged.have you ever noticed the women holding up women for trump placards.blacks holding up blacks for trump placards.you even see some Hispanics.in back of him. In one of the rallies their was a guy making faces while he was speaking in back of him.trumps assistance removed him and his friends and placed women in their place.i wouldn't place all my faith in ringer.as ringer said. That he was referring to his common sense, which can be dangerous when it comes to make predications.that is the first brilliant thought i have seen him have in a long time. You can still pop the prosecco before the blue wave hits.

      • Scott McKinney says:

those are women, blacks, hispanics who have freed their minds from the Dirty Dems' lies. Remember, the Dirty Dems don't care at all about women, blacks, hispanics, gays, crime victims, sexual abuse victims, or anyone else they put on their fake caring faces for. They are just interested in unquestioned power and will throw anyone who gets in their way under the boat, hope their voting base wakes up to this.

  5. Rick G. says:

It is imperative that the Republicans hold onto both the House and the Senate. If the Dirty Dems were to take control of either or both, the result will be a literal Hell on earth for the Trump administration for the next two years. It will bring the progress he is making to a complete stop and the attempted impeachment of President Trump and Justice Kavanaugh will begin. And that is just the start. History shows us, with the exception of two times, that the party out of power wins the midterms. I presume it is due, in part, to the different voter makeup of presidential and congressional elections perhaps. The Dirty Dems have simply become unhinged and have gone mad. They have nothing worthwhile to offer to the American people. All they aim for is bringing down the Trump administration by any means possible and they want it done right now. The Democratic Party of today is completely dysfunctional, inoperative, and out of touch with mainstream America. They need to be overwhelmingly rejected at the polls tomorrow. Let's hope that happens.

    • lee says:

This is the reply to scott McKinney.donald trump does not care about anyone.even you. He just wants useful idiots that are loyal to him.

  6. TheLookOut says:

Media bias is the elephant in the room of double standards, they
have put their partisan views above the factual truth These self
adorned elitists don't give a tinkers dam about the working middle class.
Pure, and simple the media is controlled by the DS, thus to effect a New
    World Order. Vote Republican.

    • lee says:

Whatever happened to trumps tax cut for the working middle class. Before the mid term elections.

      • Bassman says:

I guess you don't look at your pay stub. My take-home pay increased last Feb. when they updated the tax withholding tables. So, yes, there was a middle-class tax cut and do remember that only 50% of people pay any Federal Income tax on a net basis.

        • lee says:

Donald trump said. That their was going to be a tax cut for the middle class before the mid term elections.he said That two weeks before the mid term elections.at least 50% of people pay federal income taxes.donald trump pays none.

        • lee says:

That take home pay increase.is a high price to pay to allow trump and putin to take control of this country.

        • lee says:

  7. Chester says:

It looks like Trump's biggest pain will be his ownership of Trump Plaza in Washington. No Federal Elected Officials can receive gifts from a Foreign Government or Official. The Democrats have decided that receiving payment for the use of a hotel room is a gift. The D.C. and Maryland District Attorneys have filed suit in Federal Court to have the President found guilty of violating the Emoluments Act in the Constitution. How hard will it be to convince a D.C. Jury to convict a White Republican?

    • Robert Ringer RJR says:

It's absurd to the point of being downright silly (and desperate). Worst case, the Supreme Court would overturn a guilty verdict very quickly. What is Trump supposed to do, have his hotel imploded?

  8. Theczech says:

I think you’re correct except perhaps the part about the AG.

  9. D Frank Robinson says:

Libertarians could be the most and best informed voters.

  10. Serge says:

Democrats are too lazy to get out and vote, they need acorn or some type of entity to get them off their arses. I believe they will loose.

  11. Rocketman says:

What sickens me is that Trump actually endorsed Romney when there was a pro Trump candidate available.
Romney literally stole the 2012 Republican nomination from Ron Paul who would have won the election back then.

    • lee says:

Trump does that once in a while.like he is endorsing lying ted cruz. I mean beautiful ted cruz.

    • patg2 says:

I would never have voted for Ron Paul. He would never have gotten the nomination, either. He is simply dead wrong on a couple of essential, vital issues.

      • lee says:

That is correct ron paul would never had gotten elected.he is a liberterian. Among other things he was a critic of the military-industrial complex.he would not be selling weapons to saudi Arabia.he was against the united states meddling in other countries business.

        • patg2 says:

I think what you said accurately reflects Ron Paul's viewpoint. The problem is, most of us do not view America's military activity in the same way he does, and think that what America does is necessary for our national defense and the defense of the victims of tyranny.

  12. RealitySeeker says:

The Dirty Dems taking back the House only means that Trump has a house full of angry clowns he can blame for any downturn in the economy. And that's not a bad thing. I hope the GOP keeps the Senate only so Supreme Court and federal judges can be appointed to the bench by DT.

Moreover, I see America polarizing in a big way. I've not seen such a split since the Vietnam war-years. A showdown is coming.

  13. patg2 says:

I love your Thomas Sowell quote. He's a smart man. I do NOT like Mitt Romney, but why do you say he is vile?

  14. JOE C says:

My prediction: The Republicans will take both the the Senate and the House. And, I will go so far as to say it will not even be a contest. Trumps base, the majority of them, have seen how evil both the media and the Democrats really are and will be HIGHLY motivated to go out and vote to make sure the Dems get nothing. I wrote this On November 6, at 4:35 in the Morning. Let's see what happens.

    • patg2 says:

You could well be right. It could be a washout. Here's what I am thinking. I have seen lots and lots of people say they left the Democratic Party for one reason or another. But they'll still be registered as Democrats for this election. The number of ballots returned early by both sides just tells us the party affiliation, not who they voted for, and if there are indeed many disgruntled Democrats out there, they will have voted for the Republicans, and you know the rest. We will know very soon.

      • lee says:

Their are many republicans, independents and libertarians that say they will vote straight Democratic.to send a message to trump.

        • Gary says:

What message is that? That they love high taxes, illegal aliens and restraints on job growth?

          • lee says:

The message is.that donald trump and putin and their oligarchs. Will not have outright power to enrich themselves.at the expense of their own countries.

  15. Gary says:

Here in California Gavin Nuisance won the governorship and the fools (aka Democrats) voted to keep the high gas tax that will soon go into effect, adding another 12 cents to a gallon of gas. The dirty Dems have made California unlivable and I really need to move to a red state.

    Any suggestions?
