Healthcare: A Manufactured Right

Here’s how the game of life works: People want stuff — a lot of stuff — but they realize they will never make enough money to buy most of the stuff they desire. This isn’t earthshaking news, just a normal part of life.

When it starts to become somewhat problematic is when people are given stuff for free. That’s when Ringer Rule No. 387 comes into play, to wit: When you give someone something for free, he will expect that product or service to always be given to him at no cost.

But it gets worse, because it then brings into play Ringer Rule No. 388: Once someone gets something without paying for it, human nature takes over and that person not only wants to continue getting the product or service for free, he wants more and more of it. At that point, free stuff becomes a much bigger problem, because what started out to be a desire becomes, in the mind of the recipient, a “need.”

End of story? Unfortunately, no. It gets even worse. As a person gets more and more free stuff — human nature sets in again and he starts demanding that it be given to him in ever-increasing amounts. So what was originally merely a desire is now elevated from a “need” to a “right.” And once that line is crossed, property rights — which are real rights that every person inherits at birth — are subordinated to manufactured rights, which are subjectively created out of thin air.

Put simply, in order to give anyone free stuff, the money to pay for it has to be taken from someone else, which means violating another person’s property rights. The true socialist, of course, has no problem with such criminality, but, as Margaret Thatcher pointed out, it works only until you run out of other people’s money.

The right to get paid after your employer fires you (“unemployment benefits”) is a perfect example of a manufactured right. The right to get free food (“food stamps,” etc.) is another good example of a manufactured right. The right to receive free healthcare — a topic that is now very much in the news — is also a manufactured right.

Healthcare is an especially serious problem, because it’s literally a matter of life and death. No humane person wants to see anyone suffer or die as a result of not having adequate healthcare, so it’s a difficult issue with which to grapple. But in order for everyone to be covered by healthcare, the money needed to achieve such a goal has to be taken from people by force, which is right in line with the thinking of corrupt politicians who believe that spreading the wealth is their sacred duty.

Thus, the strategy of the most immoral of all politicians (Democrats) was to push through a healthcare bill (“Obamacare”) by changing the voting rules of Congress to suit their needs, then get one corrupt Supreme Court justice to, in effect, rewrite the bill (in lieu of ruling on its constitutionality) to conform to his desire to make it the law of the land.

Which brings us to today, when everyone but Bernie Sanders and Ronald McDonald realizes that Obamacare is disintegrating before our very eyes. Many conservatives are rejoicing at Obamacare’s death spiral, but that’s only because they do not understand that Barack Obama is actually on track to achieving his goal.

Understand that his real objective was to first get people to accept the notion that healthcare is a right, and polls show that in that regard his healthcare agenda has been a huge success. And now that millions of people are getting free healthcare at the expense of those who have to pay their own way, they are, predictably, demanding that Obamacare not be repealed.

Thus, the fact that Obamacare is now dying at an accelerating rate is irrelevant to them. No matter how many times they are told that the system is failing (which was by design), they don’t care. After all, if healthcare is a right, it’s not their problem how the government pays for it.

Now many weak-need Republicans who are up for reelection are starting to panic. They have their election finger in the air, but they simply aren’t sure which way the wind is blowing — or, more important, in which direction it will be blowing on election day 2018.

If they help to get a Republican healthcare bill approved, voters might throw them out. On the other hand, if they leave Obamacare in place, healthcare will be all but nonexistent in America and other voters may throw them out as well. What’s a corrupt politician to do?

In truth, there is only one solution to healthcare, and it’s something that the pitchfork crowd doesn’t want to hear: Get government completely out of the healthcare business! And since that isn’t going to happen, you can take it to the bank that all this will end up exactly where Barack Obama intended it to end up: a government-run, single-payer healthcare system. Obamacare, as publicly aired videos have made clear, was cleverly set up to fail in order to assure this outcome.

So, in the end, it isn’t really the Dirty Dems who are responsible for destroying America’s once great healthcare system. The real culprit is — as is always the case — the ignorant masses who beg to be duped. Such a masochistic desire is a result of their lack of knowledge combined with an incurable urge for something for nothing. Rest assured that the final outcome is going to be very painful to a majority of the population.

The bottom line is that it’s the same old story: People really do get the government they deserve. Politicians are simply criminals who are more than happy to give them what they want — or at least promise to give them what they want — in exchange for gaining more power over them and ensuring that they can continue looting the public treasury.

Now, let’s all sit back and enjoy watching those shameless politicians twisting and turning themselves into pretzels for the next year and a half trying to guess which way to go on healthcare “reform.” And may the worst weasels among them go down to bitter defeat.

    "The ignorant masses" —- indeed.

"The government they deserve" — yes, indeed.

Great article. Unfortunately, this situation is leading to something like musical chairs in reverse. The last one(s) still sitting, who hasn't left the building when the music finally stops, gets the government, healthcare, bread and circus they deserve…..

How do you leave the building? Leave the government building by simply not relying on the government for anything to the best of your ability. There's going to come a time when all of these government run systems collapse. The music ( i.e., other people's tax money) is going to stop; and anybody still sitting in a government chair inside a government building is going to be shit out of luck when the building collapses as the ignorant ones sit there and wonder why somebody doesn't replay the same old tax, borrow and spend song for them.

Buy gold. Buy silver. Speculate (if you know how) in junior mining stocks, crypto currency, stocks, rare goods, guns, etc., And build wealth. Get up while you can and leave the building by becoming as self-reliant as you can. Finally, take out an insurance policy by stockpiling a reasonable amount of food, water, fuel and medicine for when SHTF.

    Lastly, have faith.

The VA's hospitals is a perfect example of what happens when government tries its hand at healthcare. I visited the one up in Dallas and was shocked at my friends condition as well as suspicious puddles around his and others bedside. I wanted to puke.

    • Richard Lee Van Der says:

Yes, when I lived in Houston, I went to the VA and instead of a Real Doctor, a young person was assigned to me, one who did NOT even know common medicines! I was amazed. By contrast, when living in Michigan, my home State, I had perfect care, and excellent doctors, all in very nice environments. And once, trying to live in Phoenix, I could not even get served! I've always wondered why there is such a difference. Now, here in the Philippines, the American VA is a "mixed bag". It would help if the employed Americans, for one thing. No, VA services are not uniform, unfortunately. But, what to do about it, I don't know.

  3. Bob says:

Don't worry, Robert. Your knight in shining armour, Donald Trump has now arrived to sort it all out.

    • Jim Hallett says:

I hope this comment was tongue-in-cheek. If you have been following RJR for any time at all, you will know that speaks to libertarian principles and is not overly enamored with one, Donald Trump – only that the Donald was the best remedy to slow down the decline of Amerika, and perhaps tear away some of the accumulated junk since the "progressive" scoundrels have seized the reins of govt. since 1901. Considering the alternative was the sociopath Hildabeast, it was pretty much a no-brainer to support Trump, warts and all. RE: Healthcare, the ONLY way to sort it out is, as Robert says, get the government COMPLETELY OUT of the industry, and let the free market create options, which people can voluntarily choose from or opt out if they find none of them attractive.

  4. A friend of mine had a knee replacement several years ago, and has finally decided to have the other one done. She went in a month or so ago to get put on the waiting list (a year). The funding for knee replacements has already been spent for this year.

Canadian healthcare isn't all that its supporters say.

    • Reality Seeker says:

Yeah, and like the Germans and the rest of the socialist EU the Canadians depend on the USA to spend trillions on defense so they don't have to. Which means even with low levels of defense spending the socialists can't get enough of other people's money to fund their failing social systems.

      This won't end well…

    • Jean says:

i hear that! I grew up in the Detroit area and it was common knowledge that most of the medical facilities catered to cash-paying Canadians who were tired of being put on those waiting lists. They ponied up real money for services on demand. And a lot of their demands were for basic health care – check ups, blood work, maybe a visit to a dermatologist for a suspicious rash or change in a mole. I tried to explain to a person who received a stipend through a government program to care for her severely handicapped child that when anyone is involved in a government program, they cease to be a human being and become a budget line item. The government determines your value and you either live with it or lump it.

  5. Richard Lee Van Der says:

My parents generation (WWII and before), working class and farmer, were proud people and would do anything to avoid "goin' on Welfare"! I heard that repeatedly while growing up. They would've been ashamed to ask for "something for nothin'!" And I can still hear my Hungarian grandfather saying, "Vork iss goot!" And then, later, people began to change. I was less independent, born 1936, but still OF THEM philosophically.

Cleverly designed to fail indeed. You have to be very smart in order to act stupid. Those behind Obama were very smart. Their whole goal is to give us Communism under the mask of socialism, under the mask of Marxism, under the mask of Bolshevism, etc. Their all "good Checkists"…i.e. very evil. Dr. Sutton had a great diagram in one of his books. The political spectrum is a ring, not a straight line. Take steps along it and you'll eventually wind up in the same place after going through all the political/economic systems. Most people will never understand this. They will cling to the straight line notion til they die.

  8. Gordon says:

Robert, You are contributing to the problem, in a way, by using the language as you do. What they are really claiming as a "right" is medical care, not health care. Health care is what I provide for myself when I exercise, eat right, get enough sleep, and generally do those things that responsible people do to maintain their health. And the so-called health care industry does and pays NOTHING to assist in these efforts.
As you have pointed out in other essays, when we let others control the vocabulary of the debate, we make it very difficult to influence what follows. Even though the term "health care" is widely used, we should fight it with more correct and accurate terms.

    • paradox says:

Absolutely correct Gordon! It is not 'health care' it is SICKNESS care. Hospitals are now misnamed 'health centers' when they are in fact sickness centers. Unemployment insurance is incorrectly called 'employment insurance'. The list goes on and on.

    • Stephan F says:

      @ Gordon

Nicely put (and just between you & I it takes courage to challenge or correct the Master, so I'll throw in a big thumbs up).

      • Robert Ringer RJR says:

I agree with your correction. It actually crossed my mind, but I didn't take the trouble to think it through.

  9. TheLookOut says:

It is so easy to fall in to the trap of using the wrong phrase of "Healthcare"
when it's actually "Medical care". Of course this is by design so we will
demand the "Government nanny". take care us, and give us "Good health".
How dumb can we be – we can't get enough of what we don't want.

    • Stephan F says:

      @ TheLookOut

"How dumb can we be – we can't get enough of what we don't want."

I rarely pass out more than one thumbs up a day but your comments are so outstanding I'll just have to acquiesce.

  10. theczech says:

CJ John Roberts, writing in the majority opinion in re the ACA, rendered that this particular law was a tax. Therefore was up to the people (Congress) to repeal it. It really never was a matter to be heard by SCOTUS. The creators of this bill knew that it was nothing more than a very complex tax.

    • Rick G says:

Husseincare is 100% unconstitutional. The Commerce Clause states that the government cannot force you to buy anything.

  11. Mike says:

From the time I first say biden's disgustingly smarmy grin as he said "health care is a right" during a debate I have been perplexed by how anyone could accept the idiocy of that phrase. Can anyone truly believe that we can walk up to someone who possesses a hard earned skill and demand that they provide that skill on demand, as must be the case if it was a true right? Try that with a plumber.

  12. Rick G says:

It is my understanding that the idea for a national health insurance law, as we now have it, first originated way back in 1991 by the Heritage Foundation, the Republican Conservative think tank. Yep, that's right, the Republicans themselves! But the idea back then was rejected by them and including Newt Gingrich because it was widely believed that the American people would overwhemingly reject it. The seeds were later saved, cultivated and brought to full development by Mitt Romney in Massachusetts when he instituted it statewide. And this is exactly where Obamacare came from. It is really Romneycare gone national. You would think the Radic-Lib Dirty Dems would at least give some sort of praise to Mitt for it, or least credit for it, but you know, and I know, they won't because he is a Republican. Big surprise, isn't it? Now, after eight years of American voters complaining, whining, and pissing and moaning about "Husseincare", I like to call it, they suddenly and miraculuosly "love" it and think it is the best thing since the hoola-hoop! If a President McCain had designed, crafted, and passed that bill instead, it would be laying in the city dumpyard in ruins a long time ago. I honestly believe if the American people, most of whom are dumber than a box of rocks anyway, are so much in "favor" of it and really "want" that Titanic-Waiting-To-Happen, then knock yourselves out, bon voyage, but remember, this time there are no lifeboats to save your asses! I say leave Husseincare in place and let them each be their own captain and go down with the ship.

And the Republicans are looking silly as hell about all this, as they usually do. They are an absolute joke. (After Trump is out of office, I am leaving thr GOP hanging high and dry). Anyhooo, they screamed holy hell about Husseincare for eight years. Now, they still want it repealed, but what to replace it with. Hmmmm, that's the 64,000 dollar question! What to replace it with! They are all scrambling around like a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off not knowing what to do! The Radic-Libs are "projecting" that over 20 million will be uninsured because of it. Actually, those "uninsured" will be the lucky ones! Well, whatever they come up with, and whatever they get passed, is going to be the same old song and dance they had for the last eight years. All it will be are the same old parts and pieces, rearranged and resized, and and put into a cardboard box, sealed, and a "Trumpcare" label smacked right.on it! And naturally, people will hate it……….again! Especially, if President Trump crafted it. All this is going to be is Husseincare all over again, but this time, Husseincare on steroids! I feel sorry for our President. He would catch it from all directions no matter what he does on this issue. Then, when the GOP is out of office down the yellow brick road, the Radic-Libs will repeal and replace Trumpcare. And the beat goes on, Sonny and Cher would say!

This is my cade for and against Husseincare. I say: REPEAL, NO REPLACE!

    • Rick G says:

      Correction: "case" not "cade".

    • "Husseincare"

Couldn't have said it better, myself.

Yes, the GOP is actually the enemy of free-market healthcare. The ignorant masses get the healthcare they deserve — and they get it good and hard!

    • larajf says:

It's my understanding that medical care was created during WW2 as a way for employers to provide benefits since they couldn't provide raises. They were using it as a way to pull in the best people.
Then after the war, people expected it to continue (a la Robert's Rules)
And it just kept growing and growing and growing.

  13. Mic says:

The problem with your comment of "The people get the government they deserve" is that the some of us DON'T deserve the government we are getting! We are stuck in the vortex to hell that these idiots helped to create by voting in morons that would give them something for nothing or so they believed. Now we all pay the price for their ignorance.

I remember reading somewhere about the old adage that people that don't understand history are doomed to repeat it. The version I saw went to say that those who do know history are doomed to repeat it with the morons that don't!

I, as well as many others saw this wreck coming years ago and did everything in my power to stop it, but alas nothing we tried worked and so I watch as I go down on the Titantic that I knew was going to hit the iceberg years ago and that I also wouldn't get one of the precious lifeboats either.

    • Yes, unfortunately those who don't deserve have to suffer from those who do; however, measures can be taken to protect your wealth. Robert writes how to Look Out for 1# ….

    • Jim Hallett says:

I feel your pain, Mic, and agree with your dismal assessment. Those who believe in democracy (idiocy by definition!) have taken the whole republic down the tubes, and the average intelligence/thinking factor is getting much worse by the decade. I turn to my favorite book of all time, "How I Found Freedom in an Un-free World" by the late Harry Browne. Withdraw from the system as much as possilble (don't take welfare of any kind, including unemployment, etc.), put your assets in multiple jurisdictions so you are not dependent on any one govt. since they are ALL corrupt, and develop lots of self-reliance. The FREE LUNCH crowd is getting more demanding all the time, and as long as the digital printing presses are still working and the $USD is the world's reserve currency, the charade continues. Eventually, the piper must be paid, and don't expect all the socialists who have been doing all this govt. demanding, or the crooks in govt., to take any responsibility for the debacle.

    • Stephan F says:

Good grief, I'm overwhelmed. Damn fine commentary Mic. Kudos.

p.s. how bout we get together for a beer sometime? (just kidding)

  14. Jurgy says:

The best thing the 'pubs could do is leave O-care untouched, and open up a free market solution as an alternative, and let the customers decide which sick-care solution best suits their needs … and let O-care expire of natural causes …

    • Jean says:

The sticking point of your solution are the O-care mandates – you know, offering "free" birth control to every woman, menopause age or not. You can't have one system that demands that all citizens pay for an insurance policy or be taxed an additional 2%, and that those policies must cover certain things regardless of age or need and then have a second system running beside it. O-care needs to be repealed, removing the tax liabilities and insurance mandates. The market needs to be opened across state lines as well. And if there is any requirement that will help drive down prices, it is a requirement that primary care physicians ADVERTISE the going rates of basic services: office visit, x-ray, blood draw and labwork, etc. Plastic surgeons and those offering nonessential treatments (e.g. Lasik, dental implants) do this all the time. THEN the free market will kick in to fill the void. Insurance policies will be created in response to participant demand; some will offer comprehensive coverage, some will be for critical care only and the premiums will reflect the consumer's choice of options. Uninsured consumers and those opting to pay for basic services out of pocket will be able to make educated and informed choices with regard to whom they see.

  15. John Fallon says:

The failure of the medical system has nothing to do with Obamacare. The system has been deteriorating since pre Reagan. The combo of med. pharma and insurance industries bribing the political class;since they are people too, insures we the people will pay until bankrupt. Three monopolies working together have defeated the democratic process. Stop their bribes to Dems and Reps and the country may return to a place we can thrive in. The alternative looks like a return to serfdom.

  16. Dave Squires says:

We can opine on one side of this fence or the other all we want but as you so adeptly point out, entitlement becomes addictive and health care is perceived as life or death, even when it's not. For the outcomes we the people get, we may as well cede this case and get on with a two-tier system. We will ultimately wind up with the intended result of a single payer, miserable system with the unintended consequence of an increasingly competitive, private, entrepreneurial concierge system operating in the background. Yes, we, the productive class, will have to pay for it and then pay for it again to tier-up to acceptable health care but that can be financed either by our investment returns in defense contractor stocks or by shifting the central cost structure from tens of thousands of bombs, again with lousy outcomes, to tens of thousands of free clinics with long lines and lousy outcomes.

  17. Paul Anthony says:

The founders created a document – the Constitution – that challenged the status quo. Whereas all authority had rested in the hands of the monarchy, they dared to claim that individuals had rights – not merely privileges granted by authorities. I don't think people would disagree with that "value". Quite the contrary, we have seen the recent claim to rights that didn't exist before – the right to free health care being one of them. What people don't seem to recognize is that they are not expressing a right, but demanding a privilege to be granted by government if government is expected to pay for the "free" health care.

Likewise, with the demand that gays be allowed to marry, people are not expressing a right. If it were a right, no permission would be required. By demanding approval of the government, people are requesting that a privilege be granted.

By failing to understand the values expressed in the Constitution, the majority risks losing the benefits bestowed by it.

  18. Lana says:

Why is it not possible to repeal Obamacare (and all it's other 2,000 page attachments). In it's place return it to the free enterprise it should be. Doctors treat patients, hospitals house patients and insurance companies insure patients, with no input regarding their care. My insurance company continually calls me for personal health information (my blood pressure, what pills do I take, etc.). They were offended when I told them they were not my healthcare provider and were in violation of HIPPA by asking these questions. Medical decisions should be made by people who went to school to learn medicine. Hospitals would be more efficient if they weren't busy kissing the butts of insurance companies. Insurance companies should be in the insurance business. As a free enterprise system we have the possibility of lower costs due to competition.

In the future, if there were only one topic covered in a bill being voted on, it would be impossible to hide the kind of pork-belly, self-serving, special interest BS that is contained in Obamacare.

Also, removing advertisements for prescription medications would prevent illness from being constantly on the minds of Americans. What you concentrate on will become a reality. What you put out, you get back. Or, as they say in the Midwest, you can't plant corn and expect to harvest beans. We need correct thinking, courage and a positive attitude to go along with the repeal of Obamacare.

We are Americans, let's show the world what we can do in the face of evil.

Poor people can't afford health insurance? Funny, but almost all of the "poor people" I know or see have plenty of money when it comes to personal computers, cellular phones, cable television service, and tatoos. But their own personal health? That's someone ELSE'S responsibility!

  20. Ivan says:

I suppose one of the root causes of bad health comes from the poisonous foods that our government allows the big food companies to manufacture such as GMO's, spraying pesticides and of course there's big pharma. It all results on putting a load on hospital visits because of the body's reaction from all of it. Funny how Michele obama had a organic garden at the white house while BO passes a bill to allow food companies to not label that it's a GMO product.

  21. Rock Roach says:

There is no good solution for health care. How much were the so called 24 million Americans that are going to lose health care(and they were going to lose it anyway with or without new gop guidelines) paying for it in the first plac?.A custodian at my work place (which provides no insurrance) said his insurrance went up to a grand total of $200. in Fla. and he could no longer afford it.(mine would be like 1000 -so I am stuck with fines to support the 24 million freebees)-The real question the Dems should ask is " Why does the Gop no longer want to punish the middle class to finance free insurance to poor americans-whose votes that we are trying to secure in 2018 and beyond?"

Timely post. I was just watching Bill Whittle's "Virtual President" DVD where he tackles health care (among other issues) and I am really starting to like this man. He has such a common sense approach to everything. His solution to health care is definitely worth a listen, although I'm not prepared to detail it here. But it does eliminate the "middle men" and puts power and decision making back into the hands of consumers. There ARE some smart people out there with some wonderful solutions… we're just not hearing them. Ask yourself why.

  24. JOSEPH says:

Robert, I would like to know, where did you get this idea that Obamacare was designed on purpose to fail? I don't get that. If Obama believed in the "right" to healthcare idea, then why would he and the other Democrats design health care in order for it to fail? This idea simply sounds wrong. I think Obamacare was simply a very incompetent idea and it simply did not work the way they thought it would.

    • The Captain says:

Joseph, you have to understand Obama, the marxist, sociaist, country destroyer. He wanted (wants) the U.S. to fail and become the socialist heaven he imagines. A true idiot.

  26. Dr. Fritz says:

America has no health care system. We have a sick care system that works only on symptomatic people and aims solely to reduce said symptoms. It does nothing to promote health. Defining health, we see "100% physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease and infirmity." (Dorland's Medical Dictionary) No insurance plan covers that, most notably Medicare. A single-payer, government-run system would guarantee that no one gets good health care and that we will all be sick, although drugged-up enough to not feel it. We need to go back to the free-market system we had when I was a young doctor 40 years ago. Then we'll see more advice on healthy living, please God, much follow-through by patients, and the nation's health will rise and the cost go down.

  27. Bela says:

“But in order for everyone to be covered by healthcare, the money needed to achieve such a goal has to be taken from people by force” – Yes, and that is how the American health care system works for anyone who uses it. So that word “everyone” needs to be replaced with “anyone”.
